Michael Weatherly is best known for his long stint on the CBS procedural as Special Agent Anthony ‘Tony’ DiNozzo, as well as the titular Dr Jason Bull in the network’s popular legal drama. Half a decade after appearing in his final episode of NCIS, he took to Twitter to reminisce about his time on the classic series.

The actor posted a short clip on social media after watching an episode of NCIS with his dad, Michael Weatherly Sr.

He wrote: “This morning with my coffee, tired of crazy news and a shocking lack of understanding in the world, I came across this rerun with Dad…

“And it made me happy. Love to all and especially Senior.”

The scene featured Michael’s Agent Dinozzo and his co-star, Sean Murray, as Tim McGee.

In his new post, he also paid tribute to Sean after working alongside each other for 13 years.

“And The Perfect ⁦@SeanHMurray, of course,” he added.

The scene in question featured a humorous exchange between Dinozzo and McGee about the former’s father, Anthony DiNozzo Sr, portrayed by Robert Wagner.

In the clip, DiNozzo quips: “I gave up hope when he started dating girls younger than me, and that was the late 80s.”

Michael’s new social media post gained a number of wistful comments from fans who fondly remember his time on the series.

Cecile Holly said: “Never tired of watching reruns. Hope there will be a big reunion to end the show with a big BANG! A happy BANG.”

And Elsi joked: “Ah yeah, and then he tried to flirt with Ziva. Like father like son.”

DiNozzo’s time on the series was best remembered for his ‘will-they-won’t-they’ relationship with fellow agent Ziva David (Cote De Pablo).

He eventually left the series in 2016, though fans are keen for him to eventually return.

After seemingly being killed off, Ziva was later found alive in Israel.

Not only had she survived the mortar attack on her home, Ziva had given birth to her daughter with DiNozzo, Tali.

Her reappearance prompted DiNozzo to depart the NCIS and go looking for answers.

Former regular Cote then reprised her role when she returned as a recurring guest star in NCIS season 17.

Ziva’s surprise comeback has led many fans to believe DiNozzo could also make a cameo in an upcoming episode.

David Lennon tweeted: “The world desperately needs DiNozzo back! Please make it happen.

“It’s just not the same without Ziva, Tony, Abby and Gibbs as much as we love Ducky, Palmer and McGee.”

Special Agent in Charge Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) has also left the series after 19 seasons, so hopefully, some of the classic cast can return to relive NCIS’ glory days.

NCIS season 19 continues Monday, January 3 on CBS.
