After season 18 of the hit police procedural NCIS was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, fans are ecstatic to hear that season 19 will be heading to CBS very soon. However, producer Christopher J. Waild recently revealed a first look at the new script for the long-running series, which sent patient fans wild over the news.
NCIS season 18 featured emotional goodbyes and ending with a shocking finale.
After the series came to an end, it wasn’t long before CBS announced that the beloved series had been renewed for a 19th season.
The network revealed that the forthcoming season would be released later this year.
In the meantime, fans have been scouring social media for updates and writer and producer Christopher J. Waild’s latest tweet has sent fans absolutely wild with the news that production has started filming.
Writing on Twitter, alongside a photo of the latest script for season 19, Waild said: “Day one of Season 19.
“So grateful to be back on set with the best cast and crew in the biz. #NCIS.” (sic)
Actor Brian Dietzen, who portrays chief medical examiner Jimmy Palmer, replied to Waild: “See you soon brother!”
The photo of the script showed that Waild has written the season 19 opener, and the episode will be directed by Michael Zinberg
However, fans couldn’t contain their excitement at the news and immediately began responding to the tweet, with one person saying: “Very exciting & very happy for yet another season.”
The comments kept coming, with another writing: “Can’t wait to see what happens next.”
“Grateful to have you coming back. Best cast, crew and writers out there. Can’t wait to see what happens,” a third fan commented.
However, some other fans pointed out that the series has many story arcs to wrap up this season.
Someone else said: “Get busy…some real cliffhangers to wrap up!!!”
“Let’s hope we are not losing more of our beloved characters this season. I still can’t get over Breena and Emily’s death,” added another fan.
They continued, by hoping: “Guest appearances of previous main characters are also always welcome.”
Aside from concluding storlines next season, there is also another major change for the drama as it will no longer be aired on Tuesday nights on CBS.
NCIS will be moved to Monday nights when it does return for the first time in the show’s history.
Season 19 will air right before new spin-off series NCIS Hawaii debuts, with NCIS acting as a back-door pilot for the new series.
NCIS Hawaii is the latest spin-off in the long-running and immensely popular NCIS franchise.
The show is created by Christopher Silber, Jan Nash, and Matt Bosack.
Silber is currently the showrunner for NCIS: New Orleans, and was previously a producer and writer for the original series NCIS.
The spin-off will follow a new investigative team of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, named the NCIS: Pearl.
Vanessa Lachey has been cast as the lead Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in charge of the new law enforcement agency.
Actress Lachey will star alongside Yasmine Al-Bustami and Jason Antoon as her fellow members on the team.
NCIS season 19 will premiere on September 20 on CBS in the US.
NCIS Hawaii is scheduled to be released later this year on CBS.
