Paul (played by Stefan Dennis) has always had difficult relationships with his children on Neighbours, with some wanting to kill him and others leaving Erinsborough to get away from him. The only offspring he has left living on Ramsay Street is David Tanaka (Takaya Honda) and although the pair have been getting along recently, the dynamic between them can often be toxic. However, if they to push each other to breaking point in the coming months, the Channel 5 soap stalwart’s son might be making a sharp exit from the place he calls home.

Most recently, the father and son have been at loggerheads over Nicolette Stone (Charlotte Chimes), who is pregnant with David’s child after agreeing to be his and Aaron Brennan’s (Matt Wilson) surrogate.

However, after the doctor and Paul were on the same side about cutting the mother of the child out of the deal after discovering her criminal past, they were divided again when David agreed to continue with the pregnancy.

Although the soap veteran has now agreed to play happy families for his son’s sake, the crafty villain won’t stop until Nicolette is out of the picture.

Viewers will have to wait and see if the ruthless businessman can stay out of his son’s affairs but speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the actor who plays David, Takaya, addressed his character’s turbulent relationship with Paul.

The soap star said: “David is more and more increasingly frustrated with these points in time where Paul seemingly does something for David’s sake or for the family’s sake or for everyone else’s sake but ultimately does it in a very bad way.”

“He’s meddling rather than being helpful. Takaya the actor keeps thinking, ‘How many more times is David going to forgive Paul?’” he continued.

The soap star explained: “At what point does Paul change? But I don’t think Paul will ever change because of 36 years on the show or existing in the show’s world, at least, who knows whether Paul will ever change now.

“You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.”

Asked about whether he sees the relationship lasting forevermore, Takaya added: “In those scenes between Paul and David, neither of us ever hold back with bringing the reality of, ‘This is potentially the end of our relationship’.”

“It does always ultimately come back to Paul doing it for the right reasons but just doing the wrong thing to achieve it,” he said.

“And David is always hoping Paul is going to learn to trust David with what he’s doing and bring him into the fold rather than doing it behind his back.

“Maybe David and Paul could be a powerhouse team to be able to blur the line between what is right and what’s wrong but do it in the best was possible.

“But maybe that wouldn’t be interesting enough for Neighbours because I think that would be a bit boring,” the soap star remarked.

Viewers know David’s twin Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) and Paul’s daughter Amy Williams (Zoe Cramond ) are living in New York after moving away from Ramsay Street to enjoy their lives without their father sticking his nose in.

It’s more than likely Aaron’s husband and the ruthless businessman are going to get into another argument in the coming months.

However, this time, there might be no going back as the expectant father realises he wants Paul to have nothing to do with his child.

Therefore, he could put it to his other half they up and leave Erinsborough to start afresh in America where the rest of his family are.

Knowing how toxic Paul can be and seeing how much pain it’s causing for David, will Aaron agree they need to leave Ramsay Street for good?

In the meantime, the couple are going to have their hands full when tearaway brothers Brent Colefax (Texas Watterston) and Emmett Donaldson (Ezra Justin) return to the soap.

The pair were last seen causing trouble for David and Aaron when the husbands fostered Emmett but didn’t realise his older brother would cause carnage.

As a result, the boys ended up going to live with their aunty but what exactly has brought them back to Erinsborough and how are the expectant parents going to help?

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1:45pm and 5:30pm on Channel 5.
