‘Overwhelmed’ Gemma Atkinson trolled for leaving her newborn Mia for eight minutes – The Sun

GEMMA Atkinson has revealed she has been trolled online for leaving her newborn baby alone for just eight minutes.

The new mum explains she was desperate for a breath of fresh air yesterday and popped out to get coffee with her boyfriend Gorka Marquez.

But cruel trolls have criticised the first-time mum for leaving her baby.

"I ventured out yesterday for the first time since I had Mia. Granted it was only a 10 min trip with Gorks while Mia was asleep at home with Nana but I cannot tell you how good it felt!" she wrote on Instagram.

Gemma explained she was advised by her health visitor to pop out and get some space as it's good for her mental health.

"Being a new mum can be a little overwhelming and you can never win with your choices," she said.

And she explained after seeing photos of her, the public's reaction has been mixed.

"I’ve had the 'how could you leave her so young' messages and also the 'good for you for getting out' messages.

"I’ve been in my garden in the sun loads but it was still 'nice to actually see other human beings!

"It was also nice to have some time alone with Gorks. I’m fully aware guys can feel a little left out or on the sidelines when baby arrives because as a mum your priorities shift.

"He’s been SO great with everything and it’s been tough for him being on the road. I’m glad we got the 10 min trip in and although we dashed back, Mia continued to sleep a further 2hrs unaware we had even left."

The former Strictly Come Dancing partners revealed on Tuesday that they've named their daughter Mia Louise Marquez.

Mia was born on July 4. The pair brought their daughter back to their home in Manchester after four days in hospital.

Gemma updated fans with a candid selfie, adding the caption: "Thumbs up to the new mums club.

"What a whirlwind 9 days it's been having a little princess at home with me 24/7.

"I'm not sure how but we have been blessed with the most chilled out, calm, zen-like baby who so far eats and sleeps ever four hours like a trooper."

Gemma went on to claim "motherhood is a dream" – while pro dancer Gorka shared his own tribute to the new mum.

After returning to his theatre work, the proud dad put: "I've been only five days away from both of them and it already feels like five months."

Gorka shared a picture of the loved-up couple in hospital, taken just hours after their daughter arrived.

To announce their happy news, Gorka, 28, shared the last picture taken of him and Gemma before welcoming their daughter into the world on July 4.

"Our beautiful baby daughter arrived on Thursday 4th July and myself and Gem couldn’t be happier."

The professional dancer told fans the birth hadn't gone smoothly, revealing there had been frightening moments throughout Gemma's labour.

"She's incredible and she certainly made an entrance, giving us all quite a fright at times," admitted Gorka.

"Gemma my absolute HERO! After seeing you go through all you did to bring our little girl to life has made me love and respect you even more.

"What a trooper you are.

"I couldn't be more proud of you!!"
