The first trailer for the next chapter in the ongoing Power franchise has finally been released. Mekai Curtis stars as a younger version of Kanan Stark, originally portrayed by Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson, in the thrilling new prequel series, Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Fans are already trying to guess how the spin-off will play out ahead of its July premiere on Starz.

Power fans are still on the look-out for a mysterious character named Breeze in the latest trailer for Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

The extended sneak peek at the upcoming series was finally unleashed on Thursday, giving viewers their first look at Kanan’s early life on the streets of Jamaica, Queens.

Mekai Curtis stands in for 50 Cent, who returns to narrate the trailer, set to LL Cool J’s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’.

Kanan starts the series as a rising prince of crime on the streets of New York.

Meanwhile, his mother Raquel (Patina Miller) tries in vain to raise her teenage son away from the drug world.

Raising Kanan’s star-studded cast also includes the likes of Omar Epps (House) as police detective Malcolm Howard, serving as Kanan and Raquel’s chief antagonist.

Plus, London Brown Malcolm M. Mays, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada$$ and Quincy Brown feature in key supporting roles.

However, some fans were disappointed that the early life of Ghost (Omari Hardwick) and his run-in with the aging kingpin Breeze wasn’t featured in the new trailer.

Breeze was frequently mentioned throughout the original six seasons of Power’s mothership series, which concluded back in February 2020.

The crime lord rose to Power in the 1990s, but his empire was lost when Ghost shot him in the back of the head and took his place.

Ahead of Raising Kanan’s July premiere, it has been widely speculated that Breeze and his high-end nightclub will factor heavily in the new offshoot.

Unfortunately, Ghost’s old enemy failed to get a single mention in the new trailer.

It also still hasn’t been revealed if anyone has been cast to portray Breeze, leading to concerns he may not play a role in the series until an unconfirmed second or third season.

Once the new trailer dropped on YouTube, several fans took to the comments to speculate whether the posthumous antagonist will actually show up.

One disappointed viewer wrote: “If only we got to know who Breeze was.”

While another speculated: “Breeze is gonna be the next Ghost.”

As the series continues, Breeze definitely has the potential to come in as a late stage villain for Kanan and his crew.

However, it seems the first instalment of the new prequel will focus primarily on Kanan’s rise to notoriety against the wishes of his mother, an equally ruthless crime lord.

It’s still unclear if Book III will continue over multiple seasons, so there’s still a chance for Breeze to make a surprise appearance later down the line.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan premieres on Sunday, July 18 only on STARZ.
