Military drama SEAL Team has suffered a major loss after Scott ‘Full Metal’ Carter (played by Scott Foxx) died from his injuries sustained from an RPG in the shocking season four finale. The character joined the Bravo Team in season two of the CBS drama and quickly became a beloved and supportive member of the team. But could a familiar face be taking his place in the form of Michael ‘Thirty Mike’ Chen (Tim Chiou)?
There will surely be a dramatic shift in the upcoming season five of SEAL Team as Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz) and his team have suffered a great loss.
The trauma of their dangerous jobs and their grief for their friend Full Metal will certainly start catching up with them as the show moves forward.
Fans are grieving the loss of the character and many viewers have taken to Reddit to discuss who could be Full Metal’s replacement on the team in season five.
Many believe that former SEAL Team member Thirty Mike is the most likely candidate.
In a discussion of the season four finale, one Reddit user asked their fellow fans: “Is there a possibility that Thirty Mike will be back in Bravo and fill in for Metal?
“Given that he was part of Bravo at the later part [of] season 3 and played as Bravo 1 when Jace stepped down at the start of season 4 and continued to roll with the team until they rescued Ray,” they continued.
“I’m also interested in getting to know more about his character. Anyone remembers how and why he was transferred to Charlie and how he got his name Thirty Mike?”
Audiences first met Thirty Mike in season three and it was revealed that he used to be a member of the SEAL Team but he clashed with leader Jason, who transferred him to the Charlie Team.
Jason was unimpressed with Mike’s difficult attitude and his wildcard personality.
Most of the responders on Reddit seemed to agree that Thirty Mike would definitely be back at some point in the future as he has a history with the SEAL Team.
So with all the evidence surrounding his exit combined with his rank in the military, along with fans’ expectations tipping Thirty Mike’s comeback, what better way to return than in Full Metal’s absence?
However, many were unhappy that he could possibly return, especially filling in for someone as beloved as Full Metal.
One wrote: “I’m sure he’ll be back.
“He’s not my favorite character, he’s a wisea*s without the sonny charm.”
Another Reddit user said: “[thumbs down emoji] Couldn’t stand Thirty Mike. I’d rather them add a new member from Green Team than bring him back.
“Let us see that process again since Adam is not running it anymore.”
Thirty Mike’s attitude clearly divided viewers, with a third replying: “Thirty Mike was one of the weirder characters that the show had, up there with Vic Lopez.
“I think they’ll keep bringing in new guys, as they should,” they suggested, offering an alternative to Thirty Mike taking over from Full Metal.
However, another fan disagreed that Mike will make a return to the series, saying: “I don’t think Thirty Mike will come back.
“He is not liked very much by the fans and just didn’t seem to fit in with the team.”
Sharing the sentiment that they hope that a new member will be added, they added: “It is an exellent chance to bring in another member from Green Team and evolve on that.” (sic)
Whoever replaces Full Metal in season five clearly has some large shoes to fill.
Star Boreanaz has hinted previously that Full Metal’s tragic death will greatly affect his character Jason, as well as his fellow team members going forward, telling TV Insider: “He is still trying to fully wrap himself around that”.
SEAL Team season 5 premieres on CBS and Paramount+ later this year.
