Shetland: Ashley Jensen stars in BBC drama trailer
Shetland’s Alison “Tosh” McIntosh has teased what will be coming up in the new series of the BBC drama.
Actress Alison O’Donnell was talking about the upcoming storyline which will kick off series eight when she warned there would be some “disturbing twists”.
The new series will see Met Police Detective Inspector Ruth Calder (played by Ashley Jensen), who is replacing Douglas Henshall as leading detective Jimmy Perez, returning to her native Shetland to retrieve the vulnerable witness to a gangland murder.
Young woman Ellen Quinn (Maisie Norma Seaton) disappears from London back to Shetland after witnessing the crime, and it’s down to Tosh and the new detective to investigate.
Speaking to What To Watch, actor Alison stated: “Calder and Tosh must team up and put their respective skillsets and knowledge together to try and find Ellen, which will take them on a journey neither of them could ever have imagined, with ever more disturbing twists leading them deeper and deeper into a world of secrets and ultimately, to the truth behind it all.”

Teasing what Tosh’s relationship with her new colleague is like, Alison told the publication: “It is new and fragile and their policing styles don’t always marry up.
“But these are two confident, experienced women who recognise the value of working together and pooling resources, and who respect each other, even though they don’t always see eye to eye.”
Meanwhile, fans of the drama are also looking forward to seeing the new detective fronting the series following Jimmy’s exit.
