Actress Katie McGlynn was one of 15 celebrities to make their dancing debut on Saturday’s first weekend of Strictly Come Dancing. After the performance, she sat down with her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez for an episode of BBC’s It Takes Two, where he blasted her by comparing her to a floppy fish.
On the upcoming episode of Strictly Come Dancing, Katie and Gorka will be performing the Jive, which requires a high energy choreography.
During Wednesday’s episode of It Takes Two, presenter Janette Manrara, asked the professional how rehearsals were going with the “kicks and flicks.”
To which he responded: “It’s between a floppy fish,” and before he could continue Janette interjected, “a beautiful golden seahorse, shall we say.”
In response, Katie remarked: “He wouldn’t describe me as that.”
Gorka continued to jokingly blast the actress and said: “You were like the ugly duck in day one.”
After the audience gasped, Katie said: “He’s awful,” as she laughed in disbelief.
Gorka continued: “Doing the tango, she’s now like a swan, that was like a swan, beautiful.”
Janette said: “Thank you Gorka, thank you,” in an effort to stop him from digging a deeper hole for himself.
The actress who was well known for her role on Waterloo Road and Coronation Street as Sinead Tinker is currently playing Becky Quentin on Hollyoaks.
Speaking on the minimal rehearsal time she had for her performance due to work commitments, Katie said: “We just got through it, we just had to rehearse around filming, I don’t know how we did it to be fair.”
“I think she’s getting busier by the weeks, the more further we go, the busy she gets,” Gorka added.
“I didn’t really think this through,” joked Katie, “But, we’re here.”
On Saturday, Katie and her professional dance partner took to the floor for the first time to perform the Tango.
After her debut, the actress was scored 22 out of 40 and came in ninth place on the first-week leaderboard.
She received positive feedback from judge Shirley Ballas who applauded her performance and said: “Girl, you came in, you attacked.”
Speaking on her debut, Katie told Janette: “I was so happy and relieved, I was on cloud nine once we’d finished.”
She continued: “I was so nervous, because it was our first dance and the Tango is difficult man.
“It’s something that I’ve never done before, obviously but I’m super proud of us actually we got through it and knowing everybody was clapping, the contestants clapping – it just felt incredible,” Katie concluded.
The upcoming episode of Strictly Come Dancing is where it begins to count, as for this first time the scores will begin to determine who gets eliminated from the competition.
Fans will have to stay tuned to see if their favourite contestant will take home the highly desired glitterball trophy.
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
