Sharp Objects
When the film Gone Girl succeeded in the box office in 2014, producers were looking for a way to bring another one of author Gillian Flynn’s novels to life — and television was to be the perfect medium for her book Sharp Objects. Flynn specializes in twisted tales about mildly disturbed female protagonists, and Sharp Objects is no exception.
The show — starring Amy Adams, Patricia Clarkson, and Chris Messina — tells the story of a reporter who returns to her small-town home in order to investigate the shocking murders of two young girls. The interesting thing about Sharp Objects is that it is a miniseries, with a definitive storyline and numerous plot twists.
Adams is a standout: Her acting chops on full display as she gets to the heart of her character’s demons. Ultimately, Adams was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Film for her work in the show. With eight episodes that are packed to the brim with drama, Sharp Objects is a must-watch for anyone who enjoys good, dramatic storytelling, set in a dark, visually impressive environment.
