The Last Kingdom season five will be on Netflix soon and fans were sad to hear the story would be coming to an end. Uhtred of Bebbanburg (played by Alexander Dreymon) is still trying to figure out his ultimate destiny. There is a chance his son, also called Uhtred (Finn Elliot), will play a major role in this decision.

The final season of The Last Kingdom is bound to be more explosive than ever before as the characters’ storylines come to an end.

Tragedy and heartbreak can be expected, and this could be in the form of a family feud between Uhtred and his son.

At the start of season four, the pair did not see eye to eye as Uhtred’s son had been living at a monastery.

Devoted to his Christian beliefs, he did not agree with his father’s way of life but agreed to follow him.

By the end of the season, the pair had developed a stronger relationship, but young Uhtred decided to return to the monastery, nonetheless.

A promotional photo has been shown of young Uhtred and he is seen saying: “Perhaps it is not your destiny”.

He is likely to clash again with his father in the upcoming season, as Uhtred decides which side he will choose.

His ultimate goal is to claim back his homeland of Bebbanburg, which he will hopefully achieve before the series ends.

The series is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, with season five taking inspiration from Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer.

In Warriors of the Storm, Uhtred’s son faces a terrible fate at the hands of the character Ragnall, Uhtred’s nemesis.

Uhtred was able to fight off Ragnall, who then returned with a larger army and got his revenge.

He captured Uhtred’s son, known as Oswald in the books, and he is castrated by Uhtred’s old friend, Brida (Emily Cox).

His son survives, making it through to the next book, but in the series, this could mark the end of his time.

As the show will not continue beyond books nine and 10, some of the main characters are likely to be killed off.

Instead of young Uhtred being castrated, he could meet his ultimate demise during the battle.

Alternatively, he could fall out with his father for leading them both into danger and abandon him again.

This would not be the first time the pair have gone their separate ways, despite their stronger bond.

At the end of season four, young Uhtred said he would be returning to the church and he said goodbye to his family once more.

Uhtred could call on the help of his son again when new enemies arrive, but the young man is not keen.

Fans are eager to find out when the last season will come to light as no official release date has been given.

They are also awaiting a trailer for the final instalment, which should shed some more light on the characters’ fates.

Actor Elliot joined the cast for season four, and he is also known for his role as young Prince Phillip in The Crown.

He has previously starred in The Mercy and The Outcast.

The Last Kingdom seasons 1-4 are on Netflix now.
