Skin-crawling comedy-drama The White Lotus will conclude this Sunday and finally unveil the Hawaiian resort’s unlucky murder victim. Despite being hailed as a six-episode miniseries for HBO, creator and director Mike White’s holiday satire will return for another season.
HBO have announced that a second season of The White Lotus is currently in the works with a brand new cast.
The current ensemble, which includes Murray Bartlett and Alexandra Daddarrio, will return for one last episode this Sunday.
Creator Mike White is expected to return to the helm as the drama takes on an anthology-style format.
White previously revealed that he was enthusiastic about returning to the concept, and spoke about a potential second season in his interview with TVLine.
He said: “It would have to be a different hotel, like, say, The White Lotus: San Tropez or something.”
Locations and new cast members have yet to be confirmed for the next instalment.
However, the School of Rock screenwriter also said he wouldn’t be against bringing back some of the original cast.
“I don’t think you can credibly have [all the Season 1 guests] on the same vacation again,” he admitted.
“But maybe it could be a Marvel Universe type thing, where some of them would come back.
“We only made one-year deals with the actors, so we’d have to find out who is even available.”
There’s also the chance of one of the principal characters being killed off this week, as the series began with a reference to an ongoing murder investigation at the hotel.
Other cast members include Steve Zahn, Connie Britton, Jennifer Coolidge and Jake Lacy.

Murray Bartlett’s role as hotel manager Armond would likely rule out his return in future seasons, unless he decides to transfer to another resort.
It’s also unknown which of the cast of major TV and film talents would find time to check in for season two.
HBO Programming EVP Francesca Orsi praised the first season in a statement released alongside The White Lotus’ renewal.
She said: “Mike has once again delivered a quintessential HBO show, and it’s the talk of the town.”
“We were thrilled to hear where he wanted to go next, after closing this epic chapter in Hawaii, and can’t wait to keep following him wherever he takes us.”
Mike White was previously known for penning every episode of the short-lived HBO series, Enlightened, starring Laura Dern.
The series was cancelled after just two seasons, but strong word of mouth and impressive ratings could buck the trend and ensure its longevity with the network.
There’s no word on when the second season is expected to go into production just yet, but fans can surely expect another cast of A-listers to be announced in the near future.
The White Lotus season 1 concludes this Sunday on HBO.
