Will Mellor cast in Corrie as evil drugs lord who destroys Leanne and Simon

Coronation Street has cast Will Mellor as sinister drugs boss Harvey, who will cause chaos and devastation upon his arrival.

The actor, who is perhaps best known for portraying Jambo in Hollyoaks, will walk into Weatherfield next month — just as Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) finds herself embroiled in a dangerous world of drugs and despair.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struck up a friendship with newcomer Jacob, but it soon became apparent that Jacob had an ulterior motive, as he’s manipulated the young lad into going on drugs runs for him.

Meanwhile, Leanne has been struggling to cope in the wake of Oliver’s death following a battle with mitochondrial disease, and therefore Simon has been supporting her, but little does he know the dangers of the dark world he has got mixed up in

Upcoming scenes will see grieving Leanne battle to save Simon from the hands of the terrifying drugs gang.

This fierce maternal instinct to protective young man is what will ultimately bring her into the orbit of drugs lord Harvey.

Harvey is Jacob’s ‘boss’ and after Jacob has lured a vulnerable Simon into his trap, Harvey takes over, and wastes little time in piling on the pressure. When Simon wants out, things get even darker, as Harvey begins to threaten him.

Leanne and Simon soon realise they are in way too deep, and a menacing Harvey has no intention of letting them out of his grasp.

Upon joining the cast of the ITV soap, actor Will Mellor said: ‘I’m honoured to be asked to come into Coronation Street, it’s such an iconic show and has been a huge part of my family life.

When I started acting 32 years ago it was my mum’s dream for me to be in Corrie so I’m happy to finally be able to make it come true. It’s a Manchester institution and as a Manchester actor this is definitely a box ticked.

‘Harvey is the first out and out baddie I’ve ever played. It’s a very different type of role for me so I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into the character and making some waves.’

Producer Iain MacLeod added: ‘I am so excited to welcome Will into our world. He is a fantastic actor who has thrown himself heart and soul into making his character as terrifyingly real as possible. He will have a massive impact on our characters’ lives, from the moment he swaggers menacingly onto the screen.’

Will is no stranger to the world of soap, having started his career as one of Hollyoaks’ original characters, portraying James ‘Jambo’ Bolton between 1995 and 1998, with a one-off appearance in the Channel 4 soap in 2004.

He also portrayed Jack Vincent in Casualty between 2001 and 2003.
