X Factor viewers brands series a ‘fix’ as Simon Cowell refuses to vote and Martin is saved

Martin Bashir found himself in the bottom three of X Factor: Celebrity for the second week in a row last night. Former Coronation Street star Victoria was first to be sent home after failing to impress viewers at home while Martin faced EastEnders star Jonny in the bottom two. However, Simon Cowell refused to save either of the contestants meaning it was down to the public vote to decide who would stay in the competition.

X Factor viewers were left raging over the result with many furious Martin had been saved despite forgetting the lyrics to his song.

After Simon refused to save Jonny or Martin, host Dermot O’Leary revealed viewers had opted to see the newsreader through to week three of the competition.

And, the decision did not sit well with those watching the ITV singing competition at home.

Commenting on Twitter, one viewer shared: “Just caught up with X factor is this an acctual Joke like?? Victoria and Jonny and Martin gets kept in actually unbelievable what a fix #XFactorCelebrity.”

Another fan added: “#XFactorCelebrity if you forget the words you go total fix Simon you should be ashamed.”

“Since when did #XFactorCelebrity become a nice person competition? 2 singers left tonight over a bad singer who forgot his words #fix,” a third wrote.

Someone else shared: “#XFactorCelebrity what has Martin Bashir got on the judges?? Unbelievable decision! The fact Simon Cowel couldn’t find it in himself to actually make a choice on voting him off in incredible.

“What a fix!! Bashir has put out 3 excellent singers.”

The shock decision came after Martin was seen standing on the stage silent after forgetting the lyrics to Easy by The Commodores.

Speaking after his performance, he told Dermot: “I’m not trying to make excuses but my song had to be changed very late.

“I had to learn my song this morning. I was working on something else.

“I’ve been anxious all evening and it just went out of my mind I’m afraid. I apologise.”

Dermot comforted the journalist, assuring him: “It’s not the first it’s happened on this stage and it won’t be the last.”

It marks the second week the eliminations have angered viewers at home, with many furious when the judges sent Olivia Olson home last week.

Following Olivia’s exit, Martin predicted he would be out of the competition next.

Speaking at the Pride of Britain Awards earlier this week, he told the Evening Standard: “To be perfectly honest, she should’ve gone through.

“But we knew when we entered the competition, it wasn’t down to us.

“Simon Cowell made that decision. But I’m excited about going through.”

Following last night’s episode, Megan McKenna is still the favourite to win the series with odds of 1/2.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “It will be a daylight robbery if Megan doesn’t emerge as the Celebrity X Factor winner this year.”

X Factor: Celebrity continues Saturday on ITV at 8.30pm.
