The popular Paramount Western will turn back time to the 19th Century in the upcoming spin-off, starring Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Fans have been given a taste of what’s to come with a new trailer released on Yellowstone’s official Instagram page, which teases the epic journey behind the largest cattle ranch in America.

Paramount’s highly anticipated prequel series will premiere in just under a month.

A recent trailer for 1883 has promised viewers a sprawling epic amid the fall of the American West.

Country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill star as James and Margaret Dutton, the original parents of the family who would eventually become one of the wealthiest dynasties in the US.

However, their journey won’t be an easy one as the series’ latest footage has revealed a brutal struggle for survival.

An unknown female narrator sets the tone for the series, setting up what would eventually become the Duttons’ vast ranch.

“I heard a thousand stories,” she says. “But no one could describe this place.

“It must be witnessed to be understood. And yet, I’ve seen it.

“And understand it even less than before I first cast eyes on this place.”

Yellowstone ranch eventually becomes one of the most contested landholdings in the US within the world of Taylor Sheridan’s Western drama.

In season four, John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) is fighting for his life after an organised militia ambushes him and his family at the end of season three.

Before the attack, the ranch owner feuded with rival Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), who wants to reclaim the land after it was taken from his Native American ancestors.

The new Paramount series will finally reveal how the Duttons claimed the land for themselves.

The series is shaping up to be an action-packed period thriller, and the new trailer has revealed horse racing, cowboy brawls and shootouts all to come.

While there will undoubtedly be plenty of bloodshed, the trailer’s narrator also hinted towards a lighter side of the Western adventure.

“There were two journeys,” she explains. “One was filled with danger and death and despair.

“The other, adventure and wonder. I was on the latter, and I loved it.”

“We weren’t poor, we weren’t desperate. The road west is filled with failures. Failure isn’t what drove him. It was a dream, and the dream was coming true.”

It’s still not known who exactly is recalling her tale, though fans now have a full picture of the cast, which includes Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan.

In addition to the three main stars, Audie Rick, Marc Rissmann, Eric Nelsen and more were all announced last week.

Yellowstone: 1883 premieres Sunday, December 19 on Paramount+.
