A Place in the Sun's Ben Hillman has given a sad update to his loyal fans on social media.<\/p>\n
Ben, 32, has presented the Channel 4 show since 2016, helping expats find the home of their dreams in sunny destinations.<\/p>\n
But off-camera, Hillman has set himself a challenge to better himself throughout the course of the year.<\/p>\n

Property developer Ben entered the "Shed of the Year" competition and has been eagerly getting to work on building his new digs.<\/p>\n
He has been consistently improving his shack, regularly posting a series of pics of the project, which he named Tangerine Dream.<\/p>\n

Among the amenities of Ben's shed are an asymmetric office and studio, which he said was inspired by those in California.<\/p>\n
Other features include a polycarbonate shed, paying homage to films made in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
Ben has been keen to share updates with fans about his progress, giving tips and filling followers in on how his project has been going.<\/p>\n
In one post, the property heartthrob explained: "It used to be a rather dark and gloomy corner of the garden and I really wanted to add year round colour; something to draw the eye come rain or shine."<\/p>\n
But after a valiant effort, Ben broke the news that poor Tangerine Dream had not been deemed the winner.<\/p>\n
Taking to Instagram, he lamented: "Well the results for Shed of the Year 2023 are in and unfortunately, it's not good news for Tangerine Dream. Hats off to Frankenshed."<\/p>\n

Hillman explained that not only did his shed not win, it did not even win best in its category, leaving him devastated.<\/p>\n
He joked in the caption: "As you can see, I am already working on its full demolition ready for the 2024 competition.<\/p>\n
"It looks like I will fair better if I buy a flat-pack shed from Wickes and give it a lick of paint. None of this architecture self-build nonsense. Not that I'm bitter!"<\/p>\n
Despite his failure to win Shed of the Year, fans of the Channel 4 show were quick to flood him with support.<\/p>\n
One fan took to the comments section to write: "Ben! You OWN it… in more ways than one, yours is built to last… a bit like you, actually!"<\/p>\n

A second user also gushed over Ben's space, saying: "They don't know a masterpiece when they see it – their loss!" followed by a tangerine emoji.<\/p>\n
Whilst a third exclaimed: "I saw the so-called winning shed on This Morning and all I can say is Ben, you were robbed!!"<\/p>\n
Ben eventually responded to the fans with a simple comment: "Thanks guys, I'll get over it in time."<\/p>\n
