Bob Barker’s cause of death has been revealed.

The long-time host of The Price is Right, who presented the game show from 1972 until 2007, died ‘peacefully’ at his Los Angeles home aged 99 last month.

His death was confirmed by his publicist Roger Neal in a statement which read: ‘It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker has left us,’ he announced.

Now it’s been reported that the TV host died as a result of Alzheimer’s Disease, according to his death certificate.

The document indicated that Barker had been living with the disease for ‘years’, though the specific time of diagnosis was not provided.

Hypertension (high blood pressure), hypothyroidism and hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) were also listed as ‘other significant conditions’ that contributed to his death, per the document obtained by People.

In recent years Barker had dealt with various health issues, including a fall at his home in 2019.

Navy veteran Barker began his broadcasting career in 1950 with his own radio show, bagging his first TV gig with Truth or Consequences in 1956, before going on to join The Price Is Right.

Last week CBS, where Barker hosted The Price Is Right for 35 years, honoured him with a primetime tribute.

‘Most people remember Bob from the 35 years he spent hosting The Price Is Right,’ current host Drew Carey said at the beginning of the special.

‘So it’s easy to forget that for 18 years, he was a fixture in America’s living rooms for Truth or Consequences, a radio host before that, and a naval aviator during World War II.

‘We’ll also remember Bob for his tireless work on behalf of all animals from whales and elephants to the cats and dogs who reminded everybody at the end of the show to get spayed or neutered.’

Carey, 65, referred to Barker as a ‘legend’ before introducing a clip package that looked back on Barker’s career.

Despite announcing his retirement after 34 years in 2006, Barker did make a few special appearances in subsequent years.

Following his final episode on June 15, 2007, he returned three times: once in 2009 to promote his autobiography, Priceless Memories, and in 2013 to celebrate his 90th birthday.

He appeared for the final time in 2015 as part of an April Fool’s joke where he swapped places with new host Drew Carey for the show’s opening.

He was a winner of 19 Daytime Emmy Awards and also received a special lifetime achievement Emmy in 1999.
