**Caution: Spoilers ahead for season 4 of Sex Education**<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Sex Education viewers were taken aback by a shock death in the fourth and final instalment.<\/p>\n The last chapter officially dropped on the steamer on Thursday and of course fans wasted no time in seeing what lies in store for the Moordale lot.<\/p>\n At the end of episode two Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) tells boyfriend Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield) that her mum Erin (Anne-Marie Duff) had a drug overdose.<\/p>\n In scenes that aired at the end of episode three, Maeve immediately flew back to the UK after her mum was fighting for her life in A&E, and it was later revealed that Erin died.<\/p>\n While Maeve couldn\u2019t bring herself up to see her body, her brother Sean (Edward Bluemel) identified her corpse.<\/p>\n In episode eight, which has already been dubbed the most \u2018emotional\u2019 Maeve organized a small funeral service that was mainly made up of her friends from school.\u00a0<\/p>\n Paying tribute to her mom, she told her friend and former teachers: \u2018My mother was an addict.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u2018She also helped me set up a business when I was eight years old, washing people\u2019s cars.<\/p>\n \u2018She taught me how to pick out returning customers and taught me how to make good tips.\u00a0<\/p>\n She concluded: \u2018I really hate her for everything she put me through, but I also miss her with every cent of my being.\u2019<\/p>\n The trailer confirmed that the show will wrap up after series four, with the trailer calling it \u2018the final season\u2019 and making cheeky references to it coming to an end by saying \u2018Grab your tissues\u2026let\u2019s finish together.\u2019<\/p>\n To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a webbrowser thatsupports HTML5video<\/p>\n Creator Laurie Nunn has also been clear that the new series will be the last, telling Netflix Tudum: It\u2019s the end as we know it.<\/p>\n During that process, it just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about it.\u2019<\/p>\n The cast has also spoken about the show coming to an end, with\u00a0Barbie star Emma previously saying it would be \u2018weird\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0for the grown-up actors\u00a0to continue playing teens<\/strong>\u00a0for years to come.<\/p>\n The 27-year-old said: \u2018It\u2019s just always tricky, it\u2019s different when you\u2019re playing a character that is sort of stuck in time.<\/p>\n \u2018You know, we\u2019re playing 17-year-olds, and we\u2019re all almost 30, it is a bit weird.\u2019<\/p>\n Talking about how emotional it had been working with the cast, Emma added that the launchpad has been a \u2018blessing\u2019 but \u2018it\u2019s something that I want to gracefully exit from and be happy that it exists and protect it and enjoy it in the time that it has existed in but yeah, it needs to be left alone now I think.\u2019<\/p>\n Sex Education is available to stream on Netflix.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Got a story?<\/strong><\/p>\n If you\u2019ve got a celebrity story, video or pictures get in touch with the Metro.co.uk entertainment team by emailing us celebtips@metro.co.uk, calling 020 3615 2145 or by visiting our Submit Stuff page \u2013 we\u2019d love to hear from you.<\/p>\n
