Baby showers can be really wholesome. You might get a cute themed cake and invite your best pals to come and celebrate you and your little one.<\/p>\n
But one expectant mother began treating her baby shower like a ticketed event and her family and friends were not impressed.<\/p>\n
The mum-to-be was charging \u00a325 per person for her guests to be able to attend \u2013 and she still expected a gift.<\/p>\n
Her distant cousin took to Reddit to share how bizarre she felt her behaviour was.<\/p>\n
She wrote: My distant cousin (who I\u2019m not close with) is having a unisex baby shower at my aunt\u2019s house where she is charging $30 (\u00a325) a person to attend. <\/p>\n
\u2018She\u2019s choosing to have it catered. I do not want to pay $60 (\u00a350) to attend a baby shower I\u2019m also expected to bring a gift to.\u2019<\/p>\n

It would cost her double because her girlfriend was also attending with her.<\/p>\n
The cousin went on to say she had hosted multiple parties and never charged anyone for the food or drinks she\u2019d chosen to serve.<\/p>\n
When talking about the \u00a350 charge, she added: \u2018Not only is it a stipulation, they are hounding people for it. Am I the a**hole for thinking this is odd, or not wanting to pay?\u2019<\/p>\n
The mum-to-be had also attended the poster\u2019s baby shower recently and didn\u2019t bring a gift, handing her a $50 bill (\u00a340) before leaving.<\/p>\n
The cousin said: \u2018I appreciate it but it feels like an afterthought.<\/p>\n
\u2018We\u2019re not close at all and didn\u2019t grow up around each other. We have nothing in common but we always try to support each other\u2019s events but it\u2019s sometimes awkward.<\/p>\n

\u2018So I feel bad not attending but also, it just rubs me wrong to be charged to attend a baby shower. <\/p>\n
\u2018I RSVP\u2019d before realising the fee and now they\u2019re sending out mass invoices not to forget the $30.\u2019<\/p>\n
It\u2019s safe to say the internet was not happy with the mum-to-be charging an attendance fee.<\/p>\n
One commenter said: \u2018I would just decline. It\u2019s ridiculous to expect people to pay (beyond the expected gift). If they can\u2019t afford to have it catered, they could have just asked everyone to bring an item to contribute to a potluck.\u2019<\/p>\n
Another said: \u2018Is it not the point of hosting to provide the venue and food? That is the \u2018throwing a shower\u2019 bit? Otherwise you\u2019re just an events coordinator.\u2019<\/p>\n
Others branded the mum-to-be \u2018entitled\u2019 and \u2018greedy\u2019 and one person even said the cousin had been invited likely just for the gift and fee.<\/p>\n
Some accused the mum of living beyond her means, saying: \u2018Have. The. Party. You. Can. Afford. Do not put it on your guests to pay for the party where they have zero say over over food, entertainment, location, time\/day, and guest list.\u2019<\/p>\n
