Among them is artistic director Janet, a former dancer from Leeds, who tries to find new dancers to join the club after losing staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the show, she returns home from Paris to hold auditions in the UK – and lays out what she's looking for.

She says: "I know exactly what I need, I always know what I need.

"The dancers need to have the height with preferably legs out of proportion. This is because it makes the can-can kicks more spectacular."

The famous club, originally founded in 1889, and celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2014. It also spawned the hit musical of the same name, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
