Emmerdale viewers were left frustrated and confused after an odd plot device in the latest episode saw Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) and Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) enjoying a secret tryst out in the woods.

While the pair had been running around in secret all day, as they continue their fast-developing romance, it was Jacob's promise to Victoria to find them a special place where they wouldn't be disturbed that halted fans in their tracks.

Despite running around the village all day, Jacob managed to rustle up an enormous and extravagant glamping-style tent for him and Victoria without any assistance.

As viewers watched agape, scenes showed that Jacob had laid out candles, blankets, brought in a bed, and strung up fairy lights inside the tent. What's more, there was a roaring fire made out of logs outside on the forest floor.

"Wowza," a shocked Victoria cried excitedly, as Jacob checked if his efforts were "alright".

"You are so creative," Victoria gushed over her new beau, but fans were less than impressed.

"How the hell did Jacob rustle up that so quickly? #emmerdale," one person commented on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Another fan demanded: "Oh FFS. He's put that tent up in the woods? #emmerdale."

"Bull s**t he didn't do all that by himself #Emmerdale," a third person declared.

While a fourth fan queried: "When did Jacob have time to put up the tent, buy furniture, light a fire etc when he’s spent most of the day in bed with Vic… #emmerdale."

"Did Jacob knock that tent up in an afternoon. #Emmerdale," another viewer wondered, followed by: "Omg that is ridiculous Jacob did not put that tent up #emmerdale."

Jacob and Victoria have been sneaking around behind David Metcalfe's back for the last couple of weeks now, and things only continue to heat up between the pair.

Fans continue to question just how actor Matthew Wolfenden will leave the Dales, after it was announced earlier this year that his character would be ditching the village.

While the star strongly hinted that he would leave the door open for a potential return in the future, and is mainly leaving due to bagging a new role as Buddy in the Elf musical, the soap seems to be suggesting that David's emotional exit will be as a result of his son's new relationship.

In the latest episode, David continued to hint at a potential reunion with his ex-girlfriend Victoria, but quickly realised she wasn't interested in getting back together.

When the truth finally comes out that his own son has been sleeping with Victoria, David will undoubtedly be heartbroken and end up having an almighty row with Jacob.

Elsewhere in the Dales, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper), Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) got themselves in hot water when they stormed rapist Craig Reed's workplace without Lydia Dingle's (Karen Blick) knowledge.

While Belle made Craig's employees aware of what was going on, and his own assistant Ruth even resigned on the spot, it backfired when Craig turned up at the Woolpack later on.

As a fight nearly broke out between the Dingle family in the pub, Craig looked just as confident as ever, as he delivered a smarmy smile and told the family that he could sue them for defamation.

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV
