Steve Coogan on dying before Alan Partridge

BBC Breakfast viewers suggested Steve Coogan went “full Partridge” during his appearance alongside Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.

The Reckoning actor, who played Jimmy Savile in the BBC drama, joined the regular presenters on Saturday’s show where he discussed his role and the portrayal of his infamous character Alan Partridge.

But viewers issued a similar complaint with one suggesting the presenters had cut him off.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, a viewer complained: “@BBCNews @BBCBreakfast Just how inept can you be? You just interrupted the Steve Coogan interview with the news countdown! Don’t you have the will or the skill to have proper transition from one to the other?.”

Another remarked: “Haven’t watched BBC Breakfast for as long as I can remember but Steve Coogan is on and I wanted to see what he has to say for himself! Now it is all coming back to me! It’s the totally cringe interviews with Naga and Charlie!!! Oh my god, it is painful to watch!!”

Others joked Steve had gone into his Partridge character during the broadcast, as one user penned: “Steve Coogan this morning on playing Jimmy Saville, goes full Partridge. Too good.”

Another commented: “Just watching the interview on @BBCBreakfast with Steve Coogan. Brilliant actor, very funny, but really interesting when talking about #TheReckoning which although very dark, was an unbelievable portrayal of the monster Savile.”

“Top bloke,” a third added.

Discussing his latest memoir titled Big Beacon, Naga quizzed: “Third final memoir?”
