Steph McGovern could return to BBC Breakfast following the cancelation of her Channel 4 show, an expert has claimed.

The TV favourite, 41, was a regular on the famous BBC sofa alongside the likes of presenters Naga Munchetty, Dan Walker and Sally Nugent. However, after eight years, she said goodbye to the long-running show in 2019.

Steph then bagged her own Channel 4 daytime show, Steph’s Packed Lunch, which launched in 2020. However, it was recently confirmed that the programme, which broadcasts live from Leeds Dock, has been axed.

The shocking news was announced this month, with the broadcaster confirming the show will come to an end in December 2023. Channel 4 also said how “incredibly proud” it is of everything the programme has achieved.

Now, it’s been claimed Steph won’t be off TV screens for long. So much so, that she could make a return to BBC Breakfast or even bag a stint hosting ITV’s This Morning.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Dom Aldworth, Head of Brand Marketing at Slingo, shared his thoughts on Steph’s next career move. And he thinks it could be “interesting.”

“With her experience on daytime TV discussing daily news and trends, Steph has become a top contender in the rumours surrounding Holly Willoughby’s replacement,” the expert said. He added: “This speculation has only increased following Steph’s refusal to rule out stepping into Holly's role at This Morning.

“Moving from Channel 4 to one of their top competitors, ITV would be a significant career move for Steph. With This Morning averaging around 900,000 viewers daily.”

Dom then claimed how Steph could even head back to BBC Breakfast. The Middlesbrough lass hosted the show from 2010 until 2019.

He explained: “Having previously hosted BBC Breakfast up until 2019, it could be possible BBC bosses are eyeing Steph up for a potential return. With Steph already knowing many of the hosts, it could be an attractive and familiar opportunity for the on-screen star.”

After launching as The Steph Show in March 2020, the show had to be broadcast from Steph's house due to the Covid-19 pandemic and was briefly removed from air. When it returned that summer, it had been renamed as Steph's Packed Lunch.
