He has no friends. He&#8217;s glomming on to me. I had no idea he was gay. I had no idea he was trying to pick me up.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The duo ended up heading to Studio 54 &#8211; a former disco nightclub in Manhattan &#8211; for a night out with a group of pals which included artist Andy Warhol.<\/p>\n<p>After seeing Falconer and a male friend kiss, Ford dished: &#8216;So I thought, &#8220;Okay, these guys are gay. Well, I&#8217;ve always kind of been curious about this.&#8221; And I just belted back the vodkas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;By the end of the night, I was giving Ian Falconer a bl**j*b in the cab on the way back to his house on Eighth Street and Fifth Avenue, which he shared with [photographer] Patrick McMullan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I remember waking up the next morning in Ian&#8217;s loft bed. Thinking, &#8220;What the f**k did I do?&#8221; And I remember saying to him \u2014 you&#8217;ve seen it in movies \u2014 &#8220;This was great, but, you know, I&#8217;m not gay.&#8221;&#8216;<\/p>\n<p>Falconer, who died earlier this year, went on to become a renowned author of children&#8217;s book series\u00a0Olivia &#8211; featuring an ingenious piglet &#8211; which he developed for his niece in 1996.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ford ultimately found love with Richard Buckley after first meeting at a fashion show in 1986.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/16\/77611071-12730413-image-m-51_1699545874199.jpg\" height=\"438\" width=\"306\"><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/16\/51176087-12730413-Family_Ford_and_his_late_husband_fashion_journalist_Richard_Buck-a-52_1699545881482.jpg\" height=\"438\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<p>Falconer, who died earlier this year, went on to become a renowned author of children&#8217;s book series Olivia (with Ford, left) &#8211; as Ford\u00a0ultimately found love with Richard Buckley (together, right)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/16\/51223683-12730413-Routine_The_designer_pictured_at_his_Tom_Ford_spring_summer_2022-a-46_1699545830340.jpg\" height=\"423\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the interview, the iconic designer, who is notorious for going commando, revealed that he had finally started wearing underwear<\/p>\n<p>The pair married in\u00a02014 and welcomed\u00a0their son \u2014 whose full name is Alexander John Buckley Ford \u2014 via surrogate in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Buckley sadly passed away in 2021 aged 72 after battling prolonged illness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the interview, the iconic designer, who is notorious for going commando,\u00a0revealed that he had finally started wearing underwear.<\/p>\n<p>Asked what prompted the change, he explained: &#8216;Well, especially with jeans, because these have rips.
