GRANDFATHER &#8211; as she grills him over his crimes and attempts to track down his many victims<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Photojournalist Amanda Mustard was raised on a farm in rural Pennsylvania<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span>She described her chiropractor\u00a0grandfather, William Flickinger, as &#8216;touchy feely&#8217;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Amanda is now a central figure in HBO&#8217;s Great Photo, Lovely Life\u00a0documentary<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A woman has launched a\u00a0gut-wrenching investigation into sexual abuse committed by her own\u00a0grandfather as she attempts to track down dozens of his victims.<\/p>\n<p>Photojournalist Amanda Mustard, who was raised on a Christmas tree farm in rural Pennsylvania, described William Flickinger as a &#8216;touchy, feely grandpa.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>She is now a central figure in HBO&#8217;s upcoming documentary Great Photo, Lovely Life: Facing A Family&#8217;s Secret, which has been nine years in the making.<\/p>\n<p>In it, Amanda delves into the serial abuse carried out by her grandfather as she &#8216;reveals decades of secrecy and coverups rooted in shame and self-deception and discovers the dysfunction lurking in her own family.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78064551-12775393-image-m-61_1700581997749.jpg\" height=\"462\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Photojournalist Amanda Mustard, who was raised on a Christmas tree farm in rural Pennsylvania, described William Flickinger as a &#8216;touchy feely grandpa&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/19\/78065535-12775393-During_the_investigation_Amanda_sits_down_with_Flickinger_who_wa-a-94_1700595563181.jpg\" height=\"850\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, Amanda sits down with Flickinger, who was reportedly attracted to girls as young as four years old, for &#8216;stark, confessional interviews&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The harrowing trailer begins with footage taken during Amanda&#8217;s work trips as she explains how her career has helped shape her views: &#8216;I love that I get to make exposing the truth about something a part of my job.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I had this new language to describe things that for my whole life I thought were just normal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Like the way that some men treated me and my body, that was actually assault.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Or my touchy, feely grandpa is actually a pedophile.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about viewing old family footage featuring her grandfather, who worked as a local chiropractor, she continued: &#8216;When I watch these tapes, I see a man with a serious problem who knows that he&#8217;s not gonna get caught.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>During the investigation, Amanda sits down with Flickinger, who was reportedly attracted to girls as young as four years old, for &#8216;stark, confessional interviews.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>She asked whether\u00a0there was anybody that he ever felt like he could talk to about it, to which he simply sighed.<\/p>\n<p>And, when Amanda posed the question of whether he thought God had forgiven him, he said<span>: &#8216;Absolutely.&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78065491-12775393-image-m-63_1700582084333.jpg\" height=\"485\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, it becomes clear that Amanda&#8217;s relationship with her mother has been strained over the abuse and &#8216;the complexities of the silence that followed&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78064549-12775393-image-m-51_1700581863100.jpg\" height=\"435\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Speaking about viewing old family footage featuring her grandfather, who worked as a local chiropractor, she continued: &#8216;When I watch these tapes, I see a man with a serious problem who knows that he&#8217;s not gonna get caught&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78064543-12775393-image-m-59_1700581977062.jpg\" height=\"441\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Amanda&#8217;s mom candidly said: &#8216;Of course I feel responsible. She&#8217;s my kid, and I&#8217;ve always wanted to protect her&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, it becomes clear that Amanda&#8217;s relationship with her mother has been strained over the abuse and &#8216;the complexities of the silence that followed.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Amanda&#8217;s mom candidly said: &#8216;Of course I feel responsible. She&#8217;s my kid, and I&#8217;ve always wanted to protect her.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Turning to address her daughter directly, she added: &#8216;If you stay angry and can&#8217;t forgive somebody,\u00a0you&#8217;re drinking the poison yourself. You&#8217;ve got to let go.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>But this seemingly did not sit well with Amanda who later declared: &#8216;I would like to not have my relationship with my mom end.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The documentary sees the tenacious photojournalist posting dozens of letters to people who had previously used her grandfather as a chiropractor.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78065537-12775393-image-m-57_1700581961849.jpg\" height=\"580\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The documentary sees the tenacious photojournalist (pictured as a child) posting dozens of letters to people who had previously used her grandfather as a chiropractor<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/21\/15\/78064545-12775393-image-m-58_1700581969478.jpg\" height=\"439\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Flickinger, who had his chiropractor license revoked in 1982, served a modest prison sentence in 1992 &#8211; prior to that only getting two years probation for committing statutory rape<\/p>\n<p>The notes read:\u00a0&#8216;I&#8217;m writing to you as you may have been a past patient of William Flickinger, and I&#8217;m in the process of taking accountability for my grandfather&#8217;s actions.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Amanda tearfully concludes: &#8216;If I can be the one to step forward and on the record, say, &#8220;He did this. You can&#8217;t deny it,&#8221; it&#8217;s the very least that I can do.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Flickinger, who had his chiropractor license revoked in 1982,\u00a0served a modest prison sentence in 1992 &#8211;
