Aaron Jones Agrees to Revised Contract with Minnesota Vikings
“Jones has agreed to cut his base salary to $5.5 million as part of those changes,” reported Tom Pelissero, highlighting the significant adjustment to the running back’s contract. The Minnesota Vikings have successfully negotiated a new one-year deal with Aaron Jones, which will see his base salary set at $5.6 million, including $5 million guaranteed.
Previously, Jones was scheduled to earn $10 million in 2026 before the contract revision. This change comes after a challenging season for Jones, who played 12 games in 2025, rushing for 548 yards and scoring two touchdowns. His performance was impacted by a hamstring injury that caused him to miss five games, resulting in his lowest total of 747 yards from scrimmage since his rookie season.
Jones, now 31 years old, has spent the past two seasons with the Vikings after a successful seven-year stint with the Green Bay Packers. During his time with the Packers, he achieved a career-high of 1,138 rushing yards in the 2024 season and ranks third on the franchise’s all-time rushing leaders list with 5,940 yards. His 45 rushing touchdowns place him fourth in Packers history.
The decision to restructure Jones’ contract was influenced by the Vikings’ willingness to explore trade options. According to Sam Robinson, “The sides agreed on a reworked deal that positions the veteran running back to play a third season in Minnesota.” The Vikings had been prepared to release Jones if no trade materialized before the cap-compliance deadline.
As the Vikings look to finalize their roster for the upcoming season, Jones’ revised contract allows them to retain a player with significant experience and past success. The team’s strategy moving forward will be closely watched as they aim to strengthen their lineup while managing salary cap constraints.
