Ashley A. Fisler, 36, has been arrested and is facing serious legal consequences following allegations of sexual assault involving a former student. The Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Fisler has been charged with eight counts, including six counts of first-degree sexual assault of a minor.
The allegations stem from incidents reported by the victim on January 23, 2026, detailing an unlawful sexual relationship that occurred in 2021. According to the victim, the encounters took place both in Fisler’s car and within her classroom at Orchard Valley Middle School.
Investigators have corroborated the victim’s account by uncovering text messages exchanged between Fisler and the victim, further substantiating the claims of misconduct. Fisler is currently being held at the Salem County Jail as she awaits her first court hearing, scheduled for March 27, 2026.
In total, Fisler faces eight charges: six counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of second-degree official misconduct. Each first-degree charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the second-degree charges could result in up to 10 years behind bars.
The investigation was conducted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office in collaboration with the Washington Township Police Department. Fisler has not been employed by the Washington Township School District since April 2023, following the initial reports of her alleged misconduct.
Eric M. Hibbs, superintendent of Washington Township Public Schools, stated, “The district is aware of the charges announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a former middle school teacher. We take matters involving the safety and well-being of our students extremely seriously.” This sentiment reflects the community’s shock and concern regarding the allegations.
Local residents have expressed their disbelief and concern over the situation. Eric Sebastian, a parent, remarked, “Scary, you know you hear about it in Florida or somewhere. This is too close to us, literally right across the street.” Another neighbor, Olivia Axelrod, added, “Honestly it’s unbelievable to even think that could happen and also nobody saw it, you know. It’s horrible.”
As the case unfolds, the community remains on edge, grappling with the implications of these serious allegations against a former educator. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments in the case as the legal process progresses.
