CC Sabathia, the Hall of Fame pitcher, will serve as a booth analyst for MLB Opening Night on Netflix, coinciding with the New York Yankees’ Opening Day game against the San Francisco Giants on March 25, 2026.
The Yankees are coming off a season where they won 94 games but were eliminated in the American League Division Series by the Toronto Blue Jays. Sabathia believes that the Yankees have a strong chance to win the World Series this year, largely due to their pitching depth.
Despite their solid performance last season, the Yankees have not won a World Series since 2009, extending their championship drought. Sabathia expressed optimism about the team’s pitching staff, which includes notable players like Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt.
However, he also raised concerns about the health of the Yankees’ lineup, emphasizing the importance of players like Giancarlo Stanton, who is expected to play around 120 games this season. “For me, it’s just about that lineup staying healthy,” Sabathia stated.
Sabathia will be calling the game at Oracle Park, a venue he frequented as a child. He remarked, “Having a chance to go back home for a Giants opening day… is really cool.” His connection to the park adds a personal touch to his role as an analyst.
Looking ahead, the Yankees are running almost the same team back as last season, hoping for better postseason results. Sabathia noted, “It feels like a team that can [win a World Series] with all the pitching that they have.”
In addition to pitching, the Yankees are counting on emerging talents like Ben Rice, who is predicted to hit 40 home runs this season.
As the Yankees prepare for their Opening Day matchup, the excitement surrounding Sabathia’s return to the booth and the team’s potential is palpable among fans and analysts alike.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional changes to the Yankees’ roster before the season begins.
