Giovanni Pernices Strictly Come Dancing future confirmed after painful injury

Pro dancer Giovanni Pernice left fans concerned after revealing he’d endured a painful ankle injury, which forced him to withdraw from the dance numbers in summertime performances of Him And Me, his stage show with Strictly judge Anton du Beke.

However, the star has now issued an update – and happily confirmed he will be returning to Strictly Come Dancing as planned this year.

During an Instagram fan Q&A, one follower quizzed: “Are you doing Strictly again this year? Heard someone say you are injured x.”

The normally nimble-footed star replied: “I was, yes… but I’m back and fully recovered… Can’t wait!!”

The 32-year-old unfortunately may not be present in some of the pre-recorded numbers which were filmed while he was still healing, but otherwise is expected to be back to business as usual.

Giovanni also confirmed that he has had “lots” of enquiries about the status of his injury.

He reiterated: “Is better. Thank you for asking.”

Now that he is on top form again, he will be hoping to continue his winning streak after claiming the Glitterball trophy with Rose Ayling-Ellis back in 2021.

However, his painful setback, which took place in June, had meant his movements were compromised during the Him And Me tour.

It had previously been a great way for the star to bond with his close pal Anton.

The pair are also well known for their travel series, Anton and Giovanni: Adventures in Sicily, which sees Anton discover where his friend was born and sample great food and culture in the process.

Giovanni explained during the filming of the show why Anton was the obvious companion for it, insisting: “Genuinely, he’s one of my best, if not my best friend.

“We’ve received so many messages about the show and the thing everybody says is that it’s true friendship. It’s not one of those things you have to put on for TV.”

He added affectionately: “When I arrived in this country eight years ago, he was the only person who really looked after me.”

The concept for the show first began on a day when they were performing a theatre show together and had enjoyed having a “genuine” good time.

Anton also had the pleasure of crowning his friend as the Strictly winner two years ago.

The skilled pro once even broke a record for receiving the most ’10’ scores of any professional dancer ever to appear on the show.
