Cole Strange signs with the Los Angeles Chargers
Cole Strange has agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers on a two-year contract worth $13 million. This signing reunites him with coach Mike McDaniel, who previously coached Strange during his time with the Miami Dolphins.
Strange, a first-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2022, played 14 games last season, all as a starter. Over his career, he has participated in 44 games, making 43 starts, primarily at left guard, but also contributing at right guard and center.
During his time at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Strange was a five-year starter and became the highest-drafted player in the history of his college program. His collegiate experience laid the foundation for his professional career, which has seen him adapt to various positions along the offensive line.
Strange’s signing comes as the Chargers are overhauling their interior offensive line after losing both starting guards. The team has also signed center Tyler Biadasz to a three-year, $30 million deal, indicating a clear strategy to bolster their offensive front.
Despite suffering a torn patellar tendon in late 2023, Strange is expected to be a key player for the Chargers. Observers believe he arrives with the promise of being in the mix for a starting guard job, as McDaniel looks to install his new blocking schemes.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the specific terms of Strange’s rehabilitation and readiness for the upcoming season. However, his previous experience and the connection with McDaniel suggest he could play a pivotal role in the Chargers’ offensive plans moving forward.
