Emir Balat Arrested During Protest Incident

Balat, a U.S. citizen, is the son of Turkish immigrants who became citizens in 2017. Kayumi’s parents, originally from Afghanistan, became naturalized citizens in 2004 and 2009. The backgrounds of both individuals highlight the diverse fabric of the community involved in the protests.
The FBI is currently assisting in the investigation, which included raids on the homes of Balat and Kayumi in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. No injuries were reported from the protest incident, but the implications of such violence remain a concern for local officials.
