What changes are coming to Fortnite?

Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, starting March 19, 2026. This decision has been made to address the rising costs associated with running the game, as stated by the company, which noted that “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot.”

The price adjustments will affect various V-Bucks packs. For instance, the $8.99 pack will now provide 800 V-Bucks instead of the previous 1,000. Similarly, the $22.99 pack will offer 2,400 V-Bucks, down from 2,800, and the $36.99 pack will now include 4,500 V-Bucks instead of 5,000. The largest pack, priced at $89.99, will change from 13,500 V-Bucks to 12,500.

Additionally, players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will see their V-Bucks allocation decrease from 1,000 to 800. This price increase is set to coincide with the start of the next battle royale season.

What is happening with Fortnite Save the World?

In a significant shift, Fortnite Save the World will become free-to-play on April 16, 2026. This transition aims to welcome a broader audience to the game, allowing players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and Nintendo Switch 2 to join the experience. Epic Games confirmed that existing players who purchased the game will receive special bundles that include virtual currency and in-game items on the launch date.

However, it is important to note that the original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support Save the World due to technical limitations. According to Epic Games, “the building and AI functions need technical resources which those devices lack.” Players will still be able to earn V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions after the transition.

Looking ahead

As these changes unfold, players are left to navigate the implications of the new pricing structure and the transition of Save the World to a free-to-play model. While many players may welcome the accessibility of Save the World, the increase in V-Bucks prices raises questions about the overall impact on the game’s economy and player experience.
