Sweet moment King Charles refers to ‘beloved daughter-in-law’ Kate Middleton – as estranged son Harry is dubbed ‘lonely’ | The Sun

KATE Middleton’s sweet relationship with the King has been revealed as Charles dubbed her his ‘beloved daughter-in-law’ during a keynote speech in Kenya.

Our monarch shared his loving words at a state banquet in Nairobi where, 13 years before, Prince William and Kate got engaged. It comes after a royal expert has dubbed Charles' estranged son Harry a "lonely figure" who has "lost a lot of pals".

Charles addressed the Kenyan president and 350 guests, recalling: “It was here, in sight of Mount Kenya, that my son, The Prince of Wales, proposed to his wife, now my beloved daughter-in-law.”

Back in 2010, William got down on one knee in a log cabin at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and, much to the delight of the King, Kate said yes.

Charles, 74, has remained close to Kate since she joined the family in April 2011, with heartwarming public displays of affection in the Royals’ cheery and most challenging times.

In 2021, Kate greeted the King at a G7 reception by calling him his family nickname ‘grandpa’.

Meanwhile, that April, the pair exchanged a soft kiss on the cheek following the emotional funeral of the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

But it’s not just hugs and kisses the royal duo share.

According to royal experts, Kate’s warm presence has helped the King smooth out a few fragile cracks between himself and son William.

While Charles and William have worked to repair their father-son bond, the same can’t be said for Prince Harry, who it’s claimed, looks like a lonely figure in America.

Harry is known to have a plethora of celebrity pals including Oprah Winfrey, James Corden and George Clooney.

But in recent weeks, royal author Phil Dampier claims he’s ‘lost a lot of friends’.

The prince made a solo appearance at the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, last week and, according to Phil, he relies on wife Meghan for company.

Phil told Fabulous: “There’s been a massive cost for Harry marrying Meghan and moving to California.

“Not only has he lost his family, his royal status and military connections, but he’s also lost a lot of friends.

“I get the impression he hasn't got a circle of drinking buddies he can unwind with in Montecito, which has a population of older people, and I’m sure that takes its toll.

“He is dependent on Meghan for his social life and for someone who was used to being one of the lads, as he was in the Army, that must affect his mental health.”

When Harry is spotted with company in public – such as joining Meghan at a recent Beyonce concert and charity events – Phil says he looks less than thrilled.

“Prince Harry always seems to be a lonely figure, or he’s with corporate PR types who advise and manage his business affairs,” he said.

“He doesn’t look happy to me and I think losing some of his friends must be a factor.”

The news of Kate’s continued rise and Harry’s sad fall in royal favour comes after news that, after the Sussexes stepped away from their roles as working royals, King Charles removed the Sussexes’ personal security in the UK in a bid to calm their storm.

According to a report from the Byline Times, Charles was unimpressed with his son’s swift departure and may have removed his security in response.
