Incident at the Houston Rodeo

Lina Hidalgo stated, “This is not about a wristband or a ticket or a concert. It is about the mentality of some people and the way they treat others.” This remark followed an incident on March 10 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where Hidalgo was escorted out during a sold-out concert featuring Megan Moroney.

According to reports, Hidalgo attempted to access the dirt area of the venue without a valid chute seat ticket, which costs $425. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo clarified that access to this area is restricted to ticket holders only.

Hidalgo, who serves as the ex officio director of the rodeo and has a seat in the county suite, claimed that she was manhandled by rodeo security staff. She alleged that she was physically pushed and threatened with arrest by guards during the incident.

Her guests at the concert included the parents of a deceased Air Force veteran, adding a personal dimension to the event. Hidalgo later shared video and audio recordings of the incident on social media, which have since drawn significant attention.

The Houston Police Officers’ Union responded to the situation by posting a satirical cartoon related to the incident, further fueling the discourse surrounding it.

Hidalgo’s team had previously requested and received nearly $9,000 worth of floor access tickets for earlier nights of the rodeo, raising questions about the treatment she received compared to other attendees.

In her statements, Hidalgo suggested that the treatment she experienced had political and gender implications, saying, “If it had been a different county executive, a man, I would bet that no one would have been pushed.”

Despite Hidalgo’s claims, rodeo officials denied any knowledge of a physical altercation, stating that their security protocols were followed.

As discussions continue regarding the incident, details remain unconfirmed. The situation highlights ongoing issues of gender bias and the treatment of public officials in similar scenarios.
