Presale tickets are currently available, with general sales scheduled to begin on March 18, 2026, at 10 a.m. This year’s festival marks a significant change as it moves to Belmont Plateau after complaints about the previous venue.
Since its inception in 2007, the Roots Picnic has become a notable cultural event, showcasing a variety of prominent artists over the years, including Lil Wayne, Pharrell, and Snoop Dogg. Shawn Gee, the manager of The Roots and president of Live Nation Urban, expressed excitement about the upcoming festival, stating, “Moving the Roots Picnic to Belmont Plateau and bringing JAŸ-Z and The Roots together to perform are both bucket-list moments for us.”
The festival aims to enhance the attendee experience based on feedback from previous years, with improvements including an upgraded app and SMS service for better communication. The Roots also acknowledged the changes, saying, “We heard you. New venue. Better experience.”
Jay-Z, who has historical ties to Philadelphia through his record label Roc-A-Fella Records, has collaborated with The Roots in the past, notably serving as their backing band for his ‘Unplugged’ album in 2001. This connection adds a layer of significance to their joint performance at the festival.
This announcement follows recent discussions with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, who inspired the organizers to dream bigger for the festival’s future. Shawn Gee remarked, “After meeting with Mayor Cherelle Parker and hearing her vision for Philadelphia 250, she truly inspired us to dream even bigger.”
