The State Department is set to release a limited number of U.S. passports featuring Donald Trump’s image, a first for a sitting president. This initiative commemorates the 250th anniversary of American independence.
The new passport designs will showcase Trump’s image on the inside cover. They will also include the text of the Declaration of Independence and Trump’s signature in gold. The State Department plans a limited run of 25,000 Trump-emblazoned passports.
The launch is expected to coincide with the national celebration in July. The back cover will display an American flag with ‘250’ centered between the 13 stars, symbolizing the country’s founding.
Tommy Pigott from the State Department stated, “As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion.” However, no modern U.S. passport has featured the image of a sitting president.
Edward Kolla described the decision as “wacky,” reflecting mixed reactions among observers. The current design does not include any presidential images.
The new designs will be available for any American citizen who applies for a passport when the rollout occurs. Officials have not confirmed if any additional features will accompany these special editions.
This initiative aligns with other commemorative efforts, such as issuing commemorative coins for significant historical events. The focus remains on celebrating American independence and its historical significance.
