Chase Claypool, once a promising NFL receiver, is attempting a comeback at the Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp after two seasons out of the league due to injuries and poor performance.
Claypool is one of eight players trying out for the Packers. He last played for the Miami Dolphins on January 7, 2024, where he recorded one catch for three yards. In total, he played in 12 games during the 2023 season, finishing with eight catches for 77 yards and one touchdown.
Claypool was a second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his rookie year, he had impressive stats: 62 catches for 879 yards and nine touchdowns. However, his career took a downturn after being traded to the Chicago Bears in October 2023.
After being released by the Buffalo Bills due to a toe injury sustained during training camp, Claypool announced his intention to attempt an NFL comeback on July 3, 2025. He expressed optimism about his future.
- “I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what’s been suppressed these last two years,” said Claypool.
- Packers coach Matt LaFleur noted that Claypool looks like he’s in great shape and has shown productivity in practice.
- Claypool remarked on his injury woes: “My first season-ending injury in 18 years came at the worst possible time.”
The Packers are evaluating multiple options at receiver as they prepare for the upcoming season. Observers will watch closely to see if Claypool can reclaim his form and secure a roster spot.
