Thermos recall

thermos recall — US news

The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of over 8 million Thermos food jars and bottles. The recall follows reports of severe injuries, including three cases of permanent vision loss caused by a defect in the product’s stopper.

Thermos is recalling approximately 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. The recalled models include SK3000 (16 oz), SK3020 (24 oz), and SK3010 (40 oz). These products were sold from March 2008 through July 2024 at retailers including Target and Walmart.

According to the CPSC, “Consumers should stop using the recalled Food Jars and Bottles immediately and contact Thermos to receive a free replacement pressure relief stopper or replacement Bottle, depending on the model.” The agency reported receiving 27 injury reports related to the ejected stoppers.

The stoppers lack a pressure-relief mechanism, which allows pressure to build up inside the containers. CPSC officials warned, “If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, which can result in serious impact injury and laceration hazards to the consumer.” This design flaw raises significant concerns about food storage safety.

Consumers are urged to act quickly. They should cease using the affected products and reach out to Thermos for replacements. The company has initiated this recall to ensure consumer safety following alarming injury reports.
