“We must have a representative in Washington who puts your needs first,” said Ryan Elijah, announcing his candidacy against Cory Mills in the upcoming Republican primary for Florida’s 7th Congressional District.

Elijah’s entry comes as Mills faces serious allegations and an ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee. The subcommittee is examining six allegations against Mills, including sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations.

Elijah has lived in the district for 14 years. His campaign focuses on families, small businesses, and public safety. He emphasized the need for accountability in leadership.

The Republican primary is set for August 18, 2026. Alongside Elijah, Mills will face competition from Michael Johnson and Sarah Ulrich.

Bale Dalton, a Democrat, has gained a significant fundraising advantage over Mills, having outraised him by a 4-to-1 margin since entering the race.

Mills has denied any wrongdoing and is seeking a third term in Congress. “I’m not going to call for him to step down,” Elijah stated regarding the situation.

Nancy Mace recently filed a motion to expel Mills from Congress, citing the serious nature of the accusations. She commented, “He is only coming after me because he knows he’s next.”

Mills currently reports having $115,000 cash on hand as of April 2026. The outcome of this primary could significantly impact Florida politics moving forward.
