Takashi Kumagai‘s WIND AND SEA is incredibly intentional in its collections, cementing each release in a clear, thematic point of inspiration. In the past year, the Japan-based label has looked to 2000s hip-hop, 90s NBA rivalries and punk staples to whip up a slew of cohesive offerings.ย Led by a striking range of statement jackets, WIND AND SEA’s latest collection is rooted in Kumagi’s travels throughout Europe and the landscapes and cultures the designer encountered abroad.
While WIND AND SEA’s minimalistic design approach is still apparent in the functional cold-weather collection, the label’s autumnal offering infuses its layerable pieces with more vibrant detailing and earth-hued patterns. Kumagai looks to showcase the textural mixing of fabrics across a bevy of the collection’s outerwear pieces. Leaning into the enmeshing of denim and crochet, the collection’s key pieces are distinct in design and texture. Take a closer look at WIND AND SEA’s Fall/Winter 2023 offering in the lookbook above.
Expect the entire collection to land on Saturday, October 14.
