A voluntary recall of French Broad Chocolates was issued on April 24, 2026, due to a labeling error that could endanger consumers with walnut allergies. The Asheville, North Carolina-based company recalled its Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection after a mislabeling incident.
The recall affects three sizes of the Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection: 6-piece, 12-piece, and 24-piece boxes. These products were distributed between April 14 and April 20, 2026. The Walnut Fudge bonbon, which contains walnuts, was incorrectly identified in the printed tasting notes included with the product.
The affected batch numbers are 260414 and 260417. Consumers may mistakenly consume a walnut-containing piece of chocolate if they have a tree nut allergy. About four million Americans are affected by tree nut allergies, which can lead to severe reactions such as anaphylaxis.
No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, the FDA advises consumers with a tree nut allergy to return the product for a full refund or discard it. “Consumers with a tree nut allergy who have these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or to discard the product,” stated an FDA representative.
The best-by dates for the affected batches are June 2026. Batch 260414 has a best-by date of June 29, while batch 260417 has a best-by date of June 30. This situation highlights the importance of accurate labeling in food products to prevent serious allergic reactions.
