Kellie Pickler will return to American Idol on May 4, 2026, for the show’s 20th anniversary reunion special. This appearance marks her first major television engagement in three years following the death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs.
“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still.’ I have chosen to heed his advice,” said Pickler. Her emotional journey has been evident since Jacobs passed away in February 2023 at the age of 49.
Pickler gained fame by finishing sixth in American Idol Season 5 in 2006. Since then, she has enjoyed a successful music career. Her debut album, “Small Town Girl,” released in October 2006, earned Gold certification. The lead single “Red High Heels” reached number 15 on country charts.
This reunion episode will also feature other Season 5 alumni such as Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, and Bucky Covington. Original judges Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson are set to return as well.
Pickler’s last public appearance was at a Patsy Cline tribute concert in April 2024. She expressed excitement about performing again: “It’s been the first time I’ve been up on stage in a while.” The reunion episode will include performances with this season’s top five contestants.
