“Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study,” said President Paul V. Johnson, emphasizing the importance of regular attendance in fostering spiritual growth.
The First Presidency of the LDS Church has announced significant adjustments to the Sunday class meeting schedule, set to take effect on September 6, 2026. These changes will see Sunday School and quorum meetings held each week, with each session lasting 25 minutes. This initiative aims to support members in becoming lifelong disciples of Jesus Christ and enhance gospel learning both in homes and congregations.
Under the new schedule, the sacrament meeting will continue to last 60 minutes, while Primary classes will remain at 55 minutes each Sunday. The adjustments are a response to the church’s ongoing commitment to strengthen the spiritual education of its members, following the implementation of a two-hour Sunday schedule in January 2019.
President Camille N. Johnson remarked, “There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn, and support one another.” This sentiment reflects the church’s belief in the power of community and regular interaction among members to foster a supportive environment for spiritual growth.
In addition to the new meeting structure, the church will introduce the “For the Strength of Youth” guide as the curriculum for Young Women classes and Aaronic Priesthood quorums starting September 6, 2026. President Timothy L. Farnes noted, “This guide will help youth walk in confidence, rely on His power, and move forward with hope in a challenging world,” highlighting the church’s focus on equipping young members with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.
Furthermore, weekly Relief Society and elders quorum meetings will center around messages from the most recent general conference, ensuring that members remain connected to the church’s teachings and leadership. Members are encouraged to seek meaningful ways to enrich their worship experience during sacrament meeting, fostering a deeper connection to their faith.
As part of the transition, the fifth Sunday in August 2026 will be dedicated to preparation and discussion by youth, their parents, and their leaders, reinforcing the church’s commitment to involving families in the spiritual education of their children. Members across the world have embraced these changes with faith and enthusiasm, looking forward to the opportunities for growth and connection that the new schedule will provide.
