For the Rockies, this trade would provide two young starting pitchers in Early and Witherspoon, a middle infielder in Mayer, and a catcher in Narváez to replace Goodman. Early, a 24-year-old left-hander, is currently on the injured list with elbow inflammation but is on track to return this season, having posted a 3.44 ERA in 17 starts for Boston this year. Witherspoon, a 21-year-old right-hander and a 2025 first-round pick, is currently pitching in High A. Mayer, a 23-year-old first-round pick from 2021, could benefit from a change of scenery and a chance to play every day at one position, potentially accelerating his development.
Other Significant Trade Ideas
Another proposed trade involves the Seattle Mariners and the San Francisco Giants. The Mariners could acquire infielder/outfielder/designated hitter Casey Schmitt and left-handed pitcher Erik Miller. Schmitt, at 27, is having a strong season for the Giants and performs well against both left-handed and right-handed pitching. His ability to play multiple positions across the diamond, excluding right field, center field, and catcher, adds to his value. Miller, a 28-year-old left-handed power arm, has been an effective reliever for the Giants for the past three seasons.
