Tyreek Hill, an eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, is continuing his recovery process after sustaining a knee and leg injury in Week 4 of the 2025 NFL season. The former Miami Dolphins player recently discussed his ongoing struggles to regain strength in his left leg, nearly 10 months after undergoing two surgeries to address a dislocated knee and multiple ligament tears.
Hill, who is currently a free agent following his release from the Dolphins, posted a video on social media detailing his rehabilitation. While the footage showed him performing some advanced movements, he indicated that he is still some distance from returning to the football field.
“So it’s about 10 months after doing two surgeries,” Hill stated. “My left leg is the one that I injured. I have no power in my left leg, so I’m trying to regain all the power back in my left leg. But it’s one day at a time.”
Recovery Progress and Outlook
Despite the current lack of power in his left leg, Hill believes he has already surpassed initial medical expectations. He mentioned that he was told he “might not be able to walk again” after the injury. However, 10 months post-surgery, he feels significantly better and expressed satisfaction with his rehabilitation progress.
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, previously indicated that ensuring Hill achieves full health is the primary focus before exploring potential opportunities with a new team. If Hill can return to full strength and opts to continue his career in the NFL, there is an expectation that multiple teams would be interested in acquiring the services of the former Super Bowl champion.
The recent video showcasing Hill’s progress reinforces his commitment to an eventual NFL comeback. Although he did not provide a specific timeline, the veteran wideout conveyed confidence that his recovery is advancing positively. He also shared that his latest surgery in February addressed an LCL issue.

Before his injury, Hill was recognized as one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers. Across his ten seasons with both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dolphins, he accumulated 819 receptions for 11,363 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns. In the 2023 NFL season, he led the league with 1,799 yards on 119 receptions, scoring 13 touchdowns from 171 targets, and averaging 15.1 yards per reception.
Challenges and Future Prospects
The injury has significantly impacted Hill’s signature speed and quickness. Dr. David Chao, founder of Sports Injury Central and former team doctor for the San Diego Chargers, noted the severity of Hill’s injury, describing it as a knee dislocation involving multiple ligaments, which is considered a true orthopedic emergency. Dr. Chao also raised the possibility of nerve damage as a reason for the persistent lack of power in Hill’s leg.
An NFL source suggested that Hill’s goal is to return to the league before the end of the current season, ideally with a team contending for the playoffs, to potentially participate in the postseason. However, Dr. Chao suggested this timeline might be overly ambitious for a wide receiver, comparing it to the recovery of quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who missed a year and a half after a similar knee dislocation.
Hill remains optimistic about his journey. “I’ma keep grinding, dog. You know? My timeline looking, I ain’t gonna tell you what my timeline is, but timeline looking real good right now, man,” he said. He emphasized his focus on regaining explosion and his first step, aiming for a seamless return to the field.
Whether Hill makes a return to the field later this season or at a future date remains uncertain. His recent comments underscore that his health is the top priority. Having been told he might never walk again, his current ability to run and perform exercises in water already represents a significant achievement in his recovery, despite the continued lack of power in his left leg.
