Mills suspended her Senate campaign due to lack of financial resources. She stated, “While I have the drive and passion, commitment and experience, and above all else, the fight, to continue on, I very simply do not have the one thing that political campaigns unfortunately require today: the financial resources.”
During the confrontation, Trump warned Mills that she needed to comply with his executive order or risk losing federal funding. Mills responded defiantly, saying, “See you in court.” Her bold stance initially energized Democratic voters.

Mills was viewed as a strong opportunity for Democrats to unseat Susan Collins in the Senate race. However, her campaign struggled with political funding issues.
Mills claimed she stood up to Trump and prevented cuts to the school lunch program for Maine kids. This assertion resonated with some voters but did not translate into sufficient support.
Observers note that while Mills’ confrontation transformed her into a symbol of resistance against Trump’s administration, it was not enough to secure her position in the race.
